Himalayan Pink Salt is a crystal pure salt, which was formed more than 250 million years ago. The Himalayan Mountains were formed due to the volcanic processes at the junction of India and Eurasia. The crust of the earth began to move, and the salt, which was settled on the ocean bed, began to rise, gradually settling in newly formed rocks at an altitude of 3000 meters.
During this time active volcanic processes took place, and the salt layers were interacting with magma and sedimentary rocks. As a result, a unique pink-colored mineral – Himalayan pink salt, was formed.
Therefore, despite the common belief, Himalayan salt is actually ancient sea salt which is now settled in the area of upper Punjab. It is about 300 kilometers from the Himalayan Mountains.
It is believed that Himalayan salt was discovered by Alexander the Great troops in 320 BC. After 1947, after Pakistan’s independence, the mines were taken over by the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation, which also provides mines for rent to Agro Hub International.
